About Yubani Sánchez Fernández
Autobiography
I was born on September 16, 1986, in Camagüey, Cuba, to a loving family, but health issues overshadowed my childhood, preventing a normal life. My grandmother Paula shared a doctor’s prophecy that I possessed a spiritual gift to help others, a prediction that later shaped my art. Struggling in school, I discovered my passion at 10 under an artist’s mentorship, learning painting and developing a deep love for nature and art. Though I couldn’t enter art school due to Cuba’s restrictive system, I honed my skills and began exhibiting in group shows. In 2008, I won my first prize for "New Alliance" and deepened my studies in art history, philosophy, and religion, embracing Catholicism, which gave my work spiritual depth. Through my art, I aim to reveal God’s presence in nature, connecting the human heart to the divine. After trade school, I worked various jobs—block factory, carpentry, set design—while never abandoning painting. In 2019, I emigrated to Guyana, where my daughter Ariel was born, and later journeyed through the Amazon and Darien jungle to reach the U.S. in 2021, gaining profound experiences. In 2025, I participated in the Path to Art NY Project Masterpiece Spotlight summer magazine, released in April 2025, showcasing my work
